LCSS Teachers Get a Technology Update

Faculty members at Central Catholic, St. Boniface, St. Lawrence, and St. Mary Cathedral Schools received a technology update.  Every teacher received a MacBook Air and an iPad Mini to utilize in their classrooms.  This technology refresh goes hand in hand with the technology learning initiatives at Central Catholic as well as with the Strategic Plan.

Faculty members at Central Catholic have been receiving training on the transition to Apple products over the past 9 weeks and the teachers at the elementary schools will begin receiving training April 16.

“The introduction of one to one technology is an exciting challenge to both the faculty and students at CC,” says Mary Anthrop. “Each discipline will likely integrate and implement the new technology differently.  Teachers now have the opportunity to blend new mediums of communication with traditional ‘tried and true’ methods of teaching. In the Social Studies, I look forward to having immediate access in the classroom to resources from  historical archives, museums and historic sites.”

“With the arrival of our new technology,  I am excited, a bit overwhelmed, and a little nervous,” says Kevin O’Shea.

“I am excited because of the infinite uses of our new computers to help to enrich your child’s education and to supplement our teaching curriculum. Conversely,  I am overwhelmed at all of the possible applications to use and which are best for my classroom, and nervous because I know that the students know a lot more about these computers than I do.
Our technology department has done an outstanding job of educating us on the uses of the computers  and opened a whole new world of technology use in the classroom.”
This upgrade comes at a time that will allow teachers at CC time to prepare for the upcoming technology learning initiative in the fall.  It also is the first step towards standardization in our system.  The technology department will be using FileWave to administer the new devices as well as Meraki Systems Manager.
