“It’s hard to describe the meaning of what happened last Thursday night, and what it meant for me, my family and our community.” – Calvin Held, Class of 2018
Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School Senior, Calvin Held, and 12 other Students for Life Leaders from across the country were invited to the White House to meet with Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence for a private, 45-minute roundtable meeting. The meeting took place the evening before the annual March for Life, which was on January 19, 2018. Calvin joined student leaders from as far as Alaska to discuss various pro-life issues, including the increased violations of student free speech rights on college campuses when it comes to the topic of pro-life. Students for Life in America President, Kristan Hawkins, shared, “Vice President and Mrs. Pence were blown away by the character and courage of our leaders. At one point, he turned to me and said, ‘Where did you find these kids?’“
After the meeting, the group followed the Vice President upstairs to a reception he was hosting for our nation’s pro-life leaders. Vice President Pence then surprised everyone in the room by inviting the students to stand next to him on stage during his address. Watch the video now.
