Congratulations, St. Lawrence and St. Mary Kindergartners!

The Rowland Reading Foundation announces “exceptional” results achieved by St. Lawrence and St. Mary kindergarteners who used the Superkids Reading Program during the 2007-08 school year!

The Lafayette Catholic schools were part of a large national study of the effectiveness of the Superkids program. The children were tested in the fall of 2007 using a national reading assessment tool before and after using the program. The results showed that the schools started the year at the 54th percentile, or better than 53% of students who took the test nationally. They ended the year much higher at the 81st percentile for a gain of 27 percentile points, which means they scored higher than 80% of the students who took the test.

The SuperKids Program is continuing with St. Lawrence and St. Mary first graders piloting the program this school year.

The Superkids Program is a K-2 reading and language arts program that has been introduced in Catholic schools around the country. Other Catholic schools in our Diocese that participated in the study last year are: St. Charles Borromeo, Peru; St. John the Baptist, Tipton; and St. Augustine, Rensselaer.
