Although soccer has long been the most popular sport internationally, it did not take off at Central Catholic until relatively recently. In the fall of 1982, soccer was introduced at CC as a club. The team played a handful of games against West Lafayette, Jeff, Harrison, and Benton Central. However, the club only lasted a few years.
It wasn’t until the fall of 2003 that soccer made it’s comeback and became an official varsity sport at CC. With interest from both boys and girls, but not enough from one or the other to have a team by themselves, soccer started as a co-ed sport. After a few seasons, though, there were enough boys and girls signed up that they were able to split the team into a boys soccer and a girls soccer team, and eventually also a JV girls and JV boys team were formed.
Throughout the years, the soccer teams have grown, both in numbers and in ability. And this year, both varsity teams made school history. Through their persistence and hard work, the boy’s team won their first ever sectionals game, and the girls soccer team won their first ever sectionals and regionals games. Congratulations!
