Dear Lafayette Catholic School System Community,
As you know, Dr. Joe Brettnacher accepted a new role as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Columbus, Ohio last June. At that time, in consultation with our Superintendent and our Board of Directors, it was decided that a national search would be initiated in early 2015 for a new Principal for Central Catholic Jr.-Sr. High School. We were fortunate that our Assistant Principal, Mr. Neil Wagner, agreed to step into the role of interim Principal, providing continuity in leadership for our faculty and students. Mrs. Melissa Robertson was subsequently hired to fill the role of Assistant Principal.
It is always considered “best practice” to conduct a thorough search when there is an opening of such importance, and Central Catholic deserved no less. This January, we launched an extensive search, and formed a committee including our Superintendent, Dr. Marie Williams, and key stakeholders from both our Board of Trustees and Board of Directors. We also consulted closely with the Pastors of our six local parishes. I believe our process was thoughtful, rigorous, and healthy for both the committee and the candidates.
It is with great excitement that I announce that Mr. Neil Wagner has been selected as the new Principal of Central Catholic. We are also pleased to announce that Mrs. Melissa Robertson will continue to serve in the role of Assistant Principal.
The search committee was especially impressed with Mr. Wagner’s collaborative leadership style, and that his team was able to maintain momentum and progress toward our strategic goals and mission during a time of transition. More importantly, Mr. Wagner has easily assumed his new role as the spiritual leader of the school. He is a living example of our Catholic faith for our students, faculty and staff.
“Both of these administrators are very dedicated to the Mission of the Lafayette Catholic School System, and have demonstrated their commitment to continuing Central Catholic’s path to excellence,” said Mr. Tim Powers, Chairman of the Lafayette Catholic School System Board of Directors.
Neil Wagner spent more than twelve years as a teacher before pursuing education administration. During the past ten years, he has served as an Assistant Principal at Central Catholic and prior to that, as Athletic Director at Culver Community Jr./Sr. High School. Mr. Wagner also spent 21 years coaching high school football. He earned his Masters and Bachelors degrees in Education from Purdue University. Neil and his wife Tracie have two children – a son Timothy (CC 2014) who attends Purdue, and Bethany, who is a Junior at Central Catholic. Their family belongs to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette, where they are active parishioners.
“I am so grateful and honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve such dedicated parents and our tireless faculty and staff. We have accomplished a lot in the past few years, but we will continue to strive for greatness in all that we do at Central Catholic,” commented Mr. Wagner.
Mrs. Robertson added, “I have been an educator for 30 years, and Central Catholic is remarkable. The environment that has been created for students to grow, learn and develop a true love for Jesus Christ is unmatched. I am truly humbled to be a member of such a great team, and serving such an important mission.”
I want to personally thank the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees, our pastors, and our faculty and staff at Central Catholic for supporting this effort. I also want to thank our parents and students for their prayers and for their continued commitment to our schools.
Please join me in congratulating both Mr. Wagner and Mrs. Robertson and thanking them for their continued service to the Lafayette Catholic School System.
