Endowments & Scholarships


A robust endowment and scholarship program is key to enhancing the Lafayette Catholic School System’s competitive edge and providing financial stability during times of economic uncertainty. Our current total endowment sits at $6.4 million. It provides a vital, budget-relieving source of revenue for key line items like student aid, professional development, student programs, buildings and grounds. We have several scholarship and endowment opportunities already established and creating new ones each year. Listed below are scholarships and endowments currently provided through the school system. Scholarship Grants Awarded through Student Aid

Claire & Patrick Mackey Scholarship – Junior High student, catholic or non-catholic, actively involved in community service, good moral character and demonstrates financial need beyond 150% of Federal free and reduced lunch guidelines. Renewable one year. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Mary Hack Steiner – Students attending Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School who have displayed scholastic ability, good citizenship and financial need. Preference to children with physical disabilities and second preference to children from families having 3 or more children attending LCSS. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Gerry & Rose Anthrop Scholarship – Established in loving memory of parents Gerry & Rose Anthrop by their children Joseph Anthrop ’65, Mary Anthrop ’68, and John ’76 & Jana Anthrop. Awarded annually to a Central Catholic 9 – 12 grade student, in the form of student aid, who attended St. Lawrence for at least two years and continued through Junior High. Final selection is approved by the Principal based upon need, student’s reputation, academic record, disciplinary standing and involvement in extracurricular activities. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

The Suzan K. Burks & John R. Burke Memorial Fund – Established in memory of Suzan K. Burks ’74 in February 2005 by her husband, family and friends. Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence Parish committee. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Mildred E. Haughn Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund – Established in loving memory of Millie Haughn who passed away August 21, 2005. Provides funds to be applied toward the payment of tuition required for the attendance of Roman Catholic students in any of the Lafayette area Catholic Schools. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Fritz & Ellen Holzgrefe Scholarship Endowment Fund – Established in loving memory of Frederick “Fritz” Holzgrefe who passed away February 18, 2012 and his wife Ellen (Vickers) Holzgrefe who preceded him in death in 2011. Provides student aid scholarships for Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. students who are registered practicing parishioners. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Patricia Onorato Busch Memorial Scholarship – Established August 2000 by Dr. Joseph J. Onorato and Elizath C. Onorato in memory of their daughter, Patricia A. Onorato Busch ’81, who passed away May 6, 2000 after battling breast cancer. Provides student aid scholarships for students attending or desire to attend Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Buck & Betty Overman Scholarship Endowment for Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School – Established by Dr. Robert Bumbleburg’s personal trust in December 2005 in honor of his sister and brother-in-law. Provides student aid scholarships to similar educational financial assistance for students attending Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Dr. Pickerill K of C Scholarship – Established by the Knights of Columbus in memory of Dr. James M Pickerill, who passed away December 6, 2003. Provides student aid for an incoming freshman whose family is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has a GPA over 2.0. Renewable for one year. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Herman & Dorothy Schrader Scholarship for Central Catholic – Established in loving memory of alumni parents Herman & Dorothy Schrader by their son, Michael Schrader ’70. Provides student aid for a Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School student(s) who qualify for aid, have an overall GPA over 3.0, is in good disciplinary standing, and has a desire to love and practice the Catholic faith. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Class of 1964 Scholarship Endowment Fund – Established March 2017 in honor of the Class of 1964. Provides student aid scholarships for Central Catholic 9 – 12 grade students who demonstrate financial need, have a good academic record, represent good moral character and are involved in extracurricular activities. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Precious Blood Monastery Scholarship Fund for the Lafayette Catholic Schools – Established in 2006 on behalf of the friends of the Precious Blood Monastery. Provides student aid or similar financial assistance based on financial need, academic performance, and/or community service for any student attending the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Dorothy L. Spitznagle Memorial Scholarship Fund – Established in 1998 through Dorothy Spitznagle’s estate. Provides charitable grants in the form of academic scholarships for Catholic students attending Catholic schools in Tippecanoe County. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Richard & Paulene Schrader Family Scholarship Fund – Established in 2017 by Richard and Paulene Schrader through an estate planned gift. Provides need based student aid for St. Lawrence students entering Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Jean Cooley Fund – Established in honor of alumni parent Jean Cooley in March 2009, who was a devout Catholic and went to great lengths to provide her children a Catholic education. Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students based upon their families sacrifice of time and energy to attend the Lafayette Catholic Schools. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence Parish committee. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

William & Mayme Dilts Endowment – Established by the Dilts family in honor of William & Mayme Dilts who are remembered as being very faithful, family-oriented, and fun-loving. Student applicants and/or family should be a witness to service for the Lafayette Community and St. Lawrence Parish. Based on financial need with average grades or better. Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence Parish committee. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

William H. Garing Tuition Assistance Fund for St. Lawrence -Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence administration. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Jane Roswarski Scholarship Fund -Established by the Roswarski Family in loving memory of Jane Roswarski who passed away July 16, 2008. Scholarship is open to students entering into grades 4, 5, or 6 who demonstrate service to Church, community, family or others. Student should be an example of the Catholic faith by the way they live their life. Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students. Final selection  approved by the St. Lawrence Parish committee. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Herman & Dorothy Schrader Scholarship Endowment for St. Lawrence – Established by the Herman & Dorothy Schrader family in honor of their support of Catholic education at St. Lawrence.  Recipients must be actively involved in Church ministry (i.e. altar server, Church choir) and their family a witness of service for St. Lawrence Parish. Average grades or better. Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence Parish committee. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

St. Lawrence Parish Educational Endowment Fund – Provides financial assistance for children of St. Lawrence Parish in acquiring a Catholic education. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence administration. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Father Jack Trippel Scholarship Endowment Fund – Provides academic or similar educational financial assistance on behalf of St. Lawrence students in grades 2 – 5. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence administration. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Abigail Crowe Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Abigail J. Crowe, who died as an infant in 1996. Provides two $250 scholarships to students who have attended St. Lawrence for at least 3 years, are joyful, act like a Christian and based on financial need. Recipients are chosen by their school peers each year. Final selection approved by the St. Lawrence administration. Funds are provided each year by family to fund the scholarship.

Norbert Korty Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Elizabeth J. Porter Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Cletus & Theresa Clark Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Otto Steiner Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Rev. George Loner Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Joseph P. Riehle Scholarship – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System student aid awards. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

St. Ann Parish Educational Assistance Fund – Provides scholarships to Catholic students at St. Ann Parish in Lafayette, IN who meet certain criteria; who are attending or plan to attend any Catholic parochial school operated by another parish within Tippecanoe County. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

St. Boniface Helen Potter Fund for Catholic Education – Provide tuition assistance for needy students who are members of St. Boniface Catholic Church and are attending any of the schools within the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Merit Based Scholarships

Class of 1970 Maurie Ferriter Memorial – Central Catholic incoming 12th grade student, catholic or non-catholic, member of Student Council and will participate in a leadership role during his/her senior year. Must be of good moral character and reputation, and good academic and disciplinary standing. Demonstrate an intense desire for Catholic education. Final selection is approved by the Principal. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

St. Francis Scholarship – Established in 2005 by the alumni of St. Francis High School for Girls. St. Francis opened behind St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1928 and operated until 1957 when Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School opened. Provides tuition assistance for an incoming freshman girl at Central Catholic who is an active participant in their parish. Recipient is selected by a committee of St. Francis alumni and honored at annual luncheon held in May. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Craig R. Wilson Memorial – St. Lawrence student who is an average student with musical interests, instrumental and vocal. Financial need should be considered for the award. Final selection is approved by the St. Lawrence administration. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Future Leaders of St. Lawrence Parish – Established in 1995 through a trust fund to recognize future leaders of St. Lawrence Parish. Scholarship is open to any 6th grade student who is a member of St. Lawrence Parish and is enrolling in 7th grade at Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School. Students must complete an application, submit a short essay and be interviewed by the St. Lawrence Parish selection committee.

Scholarship Grants Awarded for Programs

Archbishop Fulton J Sheen Scholars Fund – Scholarships administered by the Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School Faith Ministry Department for students in Grades 9 – 12 to attend liturgical leadership conferences. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Mary Jane Mowle Literacy Endowment – Provides funds for the Lafayette Catholic School System to create curriculum structures to effectively prepare students for contemporary challenges in literacy proficiency. Funds held in the Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc.

Akeyson/Miller Teachers Assistance Fund – Established in 2003 by Diana L Baltz in honor of teaching friends Akeyson and Miller. Provides financial assistance for faculty members to attend seminars, conferences or programs. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Douglas W. Eberle Endowed Fellowship for Math & Science – Established in May 2015 by an anonymous donor through a planned gift to be funded through a future Charitable IRA Distribution. Established to provide a fellowship to advance the math and science departments in the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds will be disbursed to the Lafayette Area Catholic School Foundation, Inc.

Scholarships Awarded for College Tuition

Brooke E. Joslyn Memorial – Established by the family in loving memory of Brooke E. Joslyn who passed away May 2002. Provides college scholarship for a graduating senior. Criteria are GPA, athletic accomplishments, strong work ethic and member of a Church. Administered by the Central Catholic Guidance Department. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Dan Ade Memorial Scholarship – Established in loving memory of Dan Ade ’93, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on December 23, 1994. Provides college scholarship to a senior CC baseball player who demonstrates leadership, commitment and character. Award winner selected by the Athletic Director and baseball coach with final approval by Principal. Funds held in the LCSS Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Chip Leffert Memorial – Established in loving memory of Dean “Chip” Leffert ’89, who passed away June 29, 1992. Provides $1,000 college scholarship for one male and one female track and field athlete in grades 9 -12 who pushes past the barriers of half-heartedness and reach for the power within themselves to be their best. Students who receive the award in previous years continue to be eligible until they graduate from CC. Award winners selected by the Athletic Director and Track Coach with final approval by Principal.

TJ & Jeffrey W. Dienhart Memorial – Established in loving memory of Tyler “TJ” Jeffrey Dienhart who passed away at birth on August 29, 2013 &  his father Jeffrey W. Dienhart ’88, who died February 25, 2015 due to a lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. The $829.13 scholarship is awarded to a senior girls basketball player who is selected by the family. Funds are managed by the family.

Endowed Funds for LCSS Operational Vitality

Lafayette Catholic School System Education Endowment Fund – Provides funds to assist in keeping tuition as affordable as possible to educate students in the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation – Unrestricted – Provides unrestricted funds for Lafayette Catholic School System operations. Funds held in the Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc.

Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation – Teacher Salary – Provides funds to increase teacher and administrative salaries in the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds held in the Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc.

Rachel Stevenson Lafayette Catholic School System Endowment Fund – Established in 2017 in honor of Rachel Stevenson who attended 7th grade at CC in 1990 before Cystic Fibrosis took her life a few months after school began. Rachel’s grandmother, Agnes Meyers, established the endowment through a charitable trust. Provides funds to support the general operations of the Lafayette Catholic School System. Funds held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.

Roetker Family Endowment Fund for Central Catholic – Established in December 2017 by Dr. Robert and Mrs Anita Roetker through a planned gift. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support for Central Catholic Jr. – Sr. High School for operational costs to maintain physical facilities and technology of the buildings and grounds. Funds will be held in the Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc.
