I have never seen a spreadsheet I did not enjoy. If the data is accurate, numbers do not lie and often tell a story. So I decided to take a moment and analyze data for the Blue Knight Auction (BKA). Since Dave and Angie Schrader conceived the idea and put the event in motion in 1994, the Blue Knight Auction has raised over $4.6 million and netted almost $3.8 million after expenses for the Lafayette Catholic School System. It is one of, if not, THE premiere one-night fundraising event in the area. Many of our Catholic School system peers are envious of what we accomplish.
This brings me back to the title of this article: The Blue Knight Auction…Does it Matter? YES, it matters for a lot of reasons. Number one, it benefits the entire Lafayette Catholic School System community through tuition assistance. Without the BKA, parent pay across the school system would need to increase 5.8% just to cover the lost revenue. The BKA strengthens the LCSS community by generating interaction among families from all four schools at pre-auction events, volunteering, and the night of the auction. More individuals and businesses in the broader community support our school system through donated items and revenue. Our students get to see what it truly means to give back when they see and work with parents, friends and supporters on the logistics to make the event happen. The BKA has a major impact on the classroom experience through special projects and teacher wish list items.
Thank you to everyone who contributes their time, talent and treasure to the advancement of the Lafayette Catholic School System. I would like to especially thank our many volunteers who make the BKA happen. Without your dedication we could not pull this event off.
