St. Mary Cathedral
School utilizes the
Scholastic Reading Counts program to enhance the reading and comprehension skills
of our students. The program encourages a love of reading through leveled independent
reading practice.
1. A placement quiz
is administered to each student to determine their Reading Counts reading level
(Lexile).
2. Each Reading Counts
book is assigned a Lexile so your child can choose a book at their appropriate reading
level. Below are links to Reading Counts Lexile lists. Not all books are in the school library and may be found at the Public Library.
3. After reading the
book, your child takes a quiz over the book in the classroom or computer lab. Points can be earned for each book read
and go toward the classroom goal.
4. Quiz results are
provided to your child’s teacher and then sent home for your review.
