50th Anniversary


An estimated 1200 alumni and friends of Central Catholic gathered at the school on Saturday, July 14, 2007 to celebrate its 50th anniversary!  Activities included tours of the school by current CC students, memorabilia and class displays in McHale Gym, activities for children, lunch, historical presentation and Mass.
A formal program was emceed by former Principal Dave Worland CC ’73.  Mayor Tony Roswarski and State Representative Sheila Klinker offered words of congratulations.  An audio-visual program produced by Mary Anthrop CC ’68, Susan Korty Hoefer CC ’94 and Jeff Anderson CC ’94 detailed the founding of school, sacrifices and challenges along the way and major accomplishments, such as the 1973 Sectional win over Lafayette Jeff.  Current Principal Joe Brettnacher shared highlights of CC today and its plans for the future.
Joyce Weintraut CC ’68 and Paul LaRocca CC ’03 Honorary Alum presented the Spirit of the Founding Fathers award to five special friends of Central Catholic.  They are: Monsignior Fred Potthoff, Joe and Joann Sanders Bonner CC ’59, Tom Berry, Gordon Leming, and Jim and Janet Rush.  The award is given to those who exemplify the same spirit and commitment as the ones who sacrificed so much to established CC 50 years ago.
The days events concluded with Mass, co-celebrated by Bishop William L. Higi and CC alumni priests, and Katie Mraz, longtime CC choir director, led everyone in “Fight On, Central Catholic.”  Here’s to another 50 years!
